It is not often that I am asked to write about a television series where the hosts pretend to be cavemen or Tarzan - complete with attire and swinging from a tree - or chainsaw furniture just to demonstrate a key point within that episode’s theme.
Why such extreme examples? It’s simply due to reaching their target audience: the next generation. The people at ERF Medien in
Each 15-minute episode focuses on one central theme such as tolerance or self-esteem. The two hosts, André Wilkes and Heinz Janzen, use multiple skits, a teenager’s testimony, and an invitation to prayer to encourage their viewers to begin a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Although the episodes are only available in German, I was able to follow the story, the jokes, and most importantly, the overall message. So after watching some episodes, I wanted to know if it was as much fun creating the episodes as it was to watch them. So who better to ask than the team behind the series: cameramen Andreas Lehmann and Viktor Froese.
Once a month, the same team goes on a three-day film shoot and the results are always the same: long days with nearly continuous laughter. Both agreed that there is an undeniable energy that streams throughout each episode as a result of the positive work environment, great script, and of course all the jokes that are told between filming.
So, if I had to summarize what “Folgen hat Folgen” is about, I would say that it is a fun, energetic, and highly-contagious series that entertains and informs all of its viewers about Jesus Christ and that his teachings are relevant for every generation.
